This 1-day course highlights potential hazards when working on site and provides practical advice on keeping yourself and your colleagues safe.  It covers your individual and your employer’s responsibilities, including what you can do if you think anyone’s health and safety is being put at risk.

 
This course provides health and safety awareness and is endorsed by Build UK as standard training for all operatives on site.

 

At the end of the course you will have an understanding of:

  • the need to prevent accidents
  • health and safety law
  • how your role fits into the control and management of the site
  • risk assessments and method statements
  • performing safely and asking for advice
  • how to report unsafe acts to prevent an accident

Risk management of temporary works – safety and business related
The importance of the ‘4Cs’ communications, co-operation, co-ordination and competency in managing temporary works as a Temporary Works Supervisor
Legal duties
The roles and responsibilities of the Temporary Works Supervisor
The role of other temporary work process
An understanding of the relevant aspects of BS 5975.
Teaching and assessment
1 day of training: you must attend the full 7.5 hours
Examination at the end of the day: multiple choice test. You need to pass this to gain your certificate.
Qualifications you gain
CITB renewable 5 year Site Safety Plus certificate.

Successful candidates will gain knowledge and skills in:

  • The importance of the ‘4Cs’: communications, cooperation, coordination and competency in managing temporary works as a Temporary Works coordinator
  • Understanding the need for, and the duties of, a temporary works coordinator
  • Understanding the roles of others
  • Understanding BS5975, the code of Best Practice for Temporary Structures on Building Sites
  • Statutory aspects of temporary works
  • Risk assessments and method statements
  • Management of the temporary works process.
 
Teaching and assessment
  • Taught through case studies, classroom discussion, group work and individual or group presentations. You will need to do some self-study outside of the course.
  • Continuous assessment
  • You need to attend the full two-day course – see the Site Safety Plus attendance requirements
  • Multiple-choice test.
 
Qualifications you gain

CITB renewable 5-year Site Safety Plus certificate.

 

You should hold or be about to hold the role of a temporary works supervisor.  You must have a:

  • Good understanding of spoken and written English. Please contact us if you have any concerns in this area.
  • A valid form of ID, such as a copy of your passport or driving licence.

SSSTS is a 2-day health & safety course for supervisors in the construction sector. The course provides an introduction to health and safety, welfare and environmental issues on site. It also highlights construction supervisors need to promote health and safety and follow their legal responsibilities.

At the end of the course you will have an understanding of:

  • The Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Specific site issues that challenge supervisors on a daily basis
  • Effective toolbox talks
  • Supervision of occupational health
  • Behavioural safety
The course also includes publications, registration, certification, lunch and refreshments.

This 5-day SMSTS course is for project managers, site managers and supervisors, business owners and clients.  You will gain an understanding of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues on construction sites.

At the end of the course you will have an understanding of:

  • The Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations
  • Risk assessments/method statements
  • Recent changes in accepted working practices
  • Behavioural safety
  • Management of occupational health
  • Electricity
  • Excavations
  • Working at height
  • Scaffolding
  • Demolition
  • Confined spaces.
The course also includes publications, registration, certification, lunch and refreshments.

This 1-day Site Safety Plus course is suitable for staff with management or supervisory responsibilities.

This course meets the basic environmental knowledge that the sub-contract chain is required to prove to major contractors.

This 1-day Site Safety Plus course is designed for company directors.

You will explore the risks associated with non-compliance with health and safety legislation, and consider how boardroom decisions impact on the health and safety of your workforce.

This course is recognised by BuildUK for all directors working on BuildUK sites.

It covers: 

  • Moral and human costs and the implications of decisions made in the boardroom
  • The economic implications of an unsafe working environment
  • Legal responsibilities with regards to health and safety
  • The principles and importance of the risk assessment process
  • Acquiring competent health and safety assistance and the limitations of such an appointment
  • The basic tools of introducing a proactive health and safety culture
The course also includes publications, registration, certification and lunch and refreshments.

1-day course to renew your existing SSSTS certificate before it expires.  If the certificate has expired, you will need to sit the 2-day SSSTS course again.

2-day course to renew your existing SMSTS certificate before it expires.  If the certificate has expired, you will need to sit the 5-day SMSTS course again.

  • You will need to be able to read, write and understand English to a good level. Please contact us if you have any concerns in this area. 
  • You will need to provide a valid ID on the first day of the course, such as a copy of your passport or driving licence. 
  • If you need to re-sit the SSSTS or SMSTS test, you must do this within 90 days of the original course date at an additional charge.
  • If you do not meet the entry requirements, unfortunately you are not eligible to attend the course and your booking will be cancelled.  If we are unable to reassign your place a refund will not be provided.
